Issue 35, the Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services Levy provides essential funding to support people with developmental disabilities in our community. It’s a renewal levy so it won’t raise your taxes! Developmental disabilities (DD) include a wide range of diagnoses, including down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and more.
Ohio’s system of supporting people with developmental disabilities relies on county boards of DD, each of which are funded locally. In Hamilton County, that board is known as Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services (HCDDS). More than 80% of funding for HCDDS is provided by a property tax levy that must be approved by voters every five years. Voters have generously supported this levy since 1974, but without their approval, funding for DD Services in Hamilton County would be dramatically reduced. Levy funding allows HCDDS to pay the matching funds required to access Medicaid Waivers. Thanks to this match, every $1 in local funding unlocks $5 in state and federal funding that is used to pay local providers for services. And the best part is it won’t raise your taxes! The 4.13 mill renewal levy costs the owner of a $100,000 house approximately $76 per year, the same amount they’re paying now.
